There's always lots of clubs and extra-curricular activities here at Clifton. Find out more about some of the clubs we offer below:

Active Lunchtimes

Year 2 pupils enjoying Active Lunchtime.

Keeping healthy is very important to us at Clifton – we even like keeping fit at lunchtimes!

These sessions are run for Years 1 and 2 twice a week by staff from the Venture Centre.

Always Club

Display of our Always Club artwork at KS2.

At Clifton Primary we run an 'Always Club' at KS1 and at KS2. Children who attend both clubs are chosen each week by their class teachers. Children are chosen because they are 'always' good, 'always' work hard and are 'always' kind and helpful to others.

The KS1 club is run by Mrs Sheldon and at KS2 the club is run by Mrs Bhachu. Each week the children have fun whilst working on art, craft, handwriting (calligraphy) drawing, sketching activities and many more.

Art Club at the Venture Centre

Enjoying art activites at Venture Centre.

Pupils at Clifton are very lucky to attend an 'Art Club' at the Venture Centre on Brunswick road at lunchtimes.

The children enjoy a wide range of arts and crafts activities.

The club is run by staff from the Venture Centre twice a week.

Boccia Club

How close is the ball to the jack?

Pupils in Key Stage 1 have been given the opportunity to take up a new sport called Boccia at a club funded by the Calthorpe School Sports Partnership.

Boccia is a sport similar to bowls or the French game of 'boules' and is played by children and adults with a range of physical and learning special needs. Recently however it has begun to be played by pupils in mainstream schools.

The pupils have shown great skill in taking up the game and have enjoyed learning with and competing against each other on Monday evenings.

Boxercise Club

Boxercise is a great way of keeping fit!

The Boxercise Club runs on a Wednesday after school and is lead by a specialist coach.

At Boxercise Club, we wear boxing gloves and punch the pads. We do this to music.

It is a great way of keeping fit and having lots of fun!

Breakfast Club

Children at our Breakfast Club.

From 8 o'clock every morning all pupils are welcome to join us for a slice of healthy wholemeal toast or a bowl of cereal at our Breakfast Club.

After breakfast children can play a range of games or other quiet activities in the KS2 hall until the bell goes.

A great way to start the day!

Choir

Learning lots of exciting songs!

Mrs Greene our peripatetic Music teacher runs a choir on a Wednesday lunchtime.

We learn songs and sing along to a CD.

At Christmas we visited local Care homes – the residents really enjoyed our performances!

Clifton Climbing Club

Our intrepid climbers have a rest.

Clifton Climbing Club meets after school on a Monday afternoon at The Creation Climbing Centre.

We have learnt about safety, equipment, supporting each other, working as a team, setting personal goals and most importantly having fun together.

Cooking Club

Making pancakes in Cooking Club.

Cooking club takes place during lunch times at the Venture Centre for Year 2 and Year 5 children.

Club members have the opportunity to learn really useful cooking skills and to make a range of yummy food.

Digital Music Making Club

Pupils from Yrs 3 and 4 learning how to use computers to make music!

The Digital Music Making club meet on a Tuesday lunchtime. Mr Churchill leads the group of eight children from Years 3 and 4.

We are learning how to use computers to record and manipulate sound. To start with we are recording sounds from different instruments and then we will be moving onto recording our own voices and making our own music!

Drama Club

Pupils at Drama Club.

Drama club has lots of great activities and is a really good club.

There are nine people chosen from all the years and is for boys and girls. We make freeze frames and sometimes do magic tricks.

Drama club is at lunchtime and is an excellent opportunity to make friends. It is every Tuesday and is normally set in the hall. In drama club we work together, we have lots of fun and sometimes we play games. Sometimes we act too.

Football Clubs

Practising passing skills in Football Club.

At Football Club on Thursdays at 3.20pm Year 3 and 4 do lots of football. We do warm ups and lots of skills like headers, passing and shooting.

I like it best when we play games for warm ups and when we play matches. I also like playing with my friends and being goalie (by Ayub).

We went to a competition in Small Heath school and showed our skills to everyone – we had a great time! I like going to football club. Boys and girls can both play football! I like heading and penalties best (by Tamane).

Guitar Club

Pupils enjoying guitar club.

On a Tuesday lunch time Mr Gillander runs a guitar club.

We have learnt how to hold our guitars properly and are learning how to play chords.

We take our guitars home to practise.

Knitting Clubs

We really enjoy our knitting.

There are knitting clubs in Year 2, Year 3 and Year 4. We meet at lunchtime with Ms Fortnum and Mrs Jones. We have knitted many different things, purses, pencil cases, mobile phone covers and a passport bag.

Knitting uses lots of maths skills; we have to count stitches and our rows. It also takes lots of concentration. The children in Year 4 who are really good at knitting now help each other sort out any problems.

If you are interested in knitting club see Ms Fortnum and Mrs Jones and you can put your name on a waiting list.

Recorder Club

Seeing who can hold the longest note!

Our budding recorder players belong to a club that takes place at lunchtimes and is run by recorder specialist Mrs Carmichael.

We play along to a great CD that accompanies us and often play to the rest of the school in assemblies.

Rowing Club

Year 6 pupils improving their rowing technique.

Following the success of 2008's club, where both boys and girls finished in the top ten indoor rowing teams in the whole of Birmingham, Clifton have continued to enjoy indoor rowing under the tutelage of Erik Warner, a trained rowing and fitness coach.

The boys team, who finished first in last years Birmingham City championships, have now entered a national online league, set up by Concept 2, the company which supply the indoor machines.

Teams are made up of either 4 or 8 pupils, who row relay style over a set distance, which increases every month.

Zain, a keen rower stated "Rowing is great way to have fun and keep healthy, we love the competitions."

Details of the league can be found at: www.concept2.co.uk/league

Sewing Club

Some examples from our sewing club.

The sewing club meets just once a week in the ICT suite.

Mrs Bhachu leads this very talented and wonderful group of children from upper school.

We think our designs look great!
