EVERY CHILD MATTERS
Clifton School is committed to the Every Child Matters agenda.
Every Child Matters states that every child, whatever their background or circumstances, should have the support they need to:
- be healthy,
- stay safe,
- enjoy and achieve,
- make a positive contribution,
- achieve economic well-being.
These five outcomes are at the heart of everything a school does and are reinforced through every aspect of its curriculum - lessons, events, routines, the environment in which children learn and what they do out of school.
Here are some examples of some of the ways we address Every Child Matters here at Clifton.
Be Healthy

Climbing Club
We offer a large range of extra curricular clubs to help children stay healthy. Football, cricket, basketball, netball, rowing, boccia and boxercise are just a few.
Clifton successfully achieved the Healthy Schools award in 2007.
Stay Safe

Walking Bus
As part of our Health education in school we have an annual visit from the Life Caravan. Children are made aware of the dangers of drugs and smoking.
As a school we take part in National Anti-Bullying week and give children opportunities to talk about strategies to deal with bullying.
We are constantly carrying out Health and Safety audits in school to ensure that the children are in a safe environment.
The school operates a Walking Bus. Children are picked up from their homes and walked to school where they have breakfast in the Breakfast Club.
Enjoy and Achieve

Parents and children working together making purses
'Enjoyment' is at the forefront of everything we do at Clifton.
We are working hard to involve parents in their children's learning. We are currently running a range of workshops and groups for parents.
If you would like to know more of what is on offer please see Mrs Brown.
Make a Positive Contribution

Nursery children selling cakes for Children In Need
Children at Clifton are always getting involved in community initiatives.
Balsall Heath Carnival and Artsfest are annual events on the school calendar, and at Christmas time the choir and dancers visit local care homes to provide entertainment for the residents.
Coffee mornings are very popular events throughout the year with children being involved in the decision making over which charities we support.
Achieve Economic Well-Being

Year 5 selling items at the Rag Market which they made at school
We give children opportunities to take part in activities that give them awareness of the wider world.
A group of Year 5 children have taken part in a Young Apprentice competition, designing, making and selling their products with the help of two of our Assistant Learning Mentors at Birmingham Indoor Market.
The group were runners up and won £140 for the school. They were presented with their cheque at the Chamber of Commerce.
