Parents in School
It is very important to us that parents continue to play a large part in the education of their children when they start school because we firmly believe that children whose parents play an active role in their learning are the children who make the most progress in school.
In addition to the usual Parents' Evenings we run courses and hold meetings to encourage parents to support their children's learning on a regular basis.
Reading/Writing Meetings
These are held in the Autumn term and provide parents with the opportunity to find out how we teach these basic skills in school.
INSPiRE Workshops
These are fun afternoons when each child invites a member of their family to join them in school and learn together. Everyone who has been to an INSPiRE workshop has thoroughly enjoyed themselves and there is always something to take home!
Other courses are organised by our Parent Link Worker and details are available on request. Recent courses have included 'First Aid', 'Stress Management' and 'Health and Beauty'.

The Family Reading Group
Sharon and Jane, librarians from Northfield Library, lead the group, which meets monthly, in the school library at 3.25pm.
The session, for children and parents, usually starts with a story read by the librarians and then children (from Reception to Year 6) choose up to two books to take home to read. There are books for adults too. At the next meeting, the children are encouraged to talk about their books and pass on recommendations to each other. It is an effective way for children to further their love of books as well as developing self confidence and taste in reading matter, all supported by interested adults.
Throughout the year other book related activities are included, for example word searches, quizzes or making bookmarks, the emphasis always being on fun and a shared love of books.
Family Reading Group is for everyone. Drop in to the next session, you can be sure of a warm welcome.
