Clubs

Wednesday clubs are run by our teachers and are open to all members of Year 4. Each term the children receive a letter about the clubs on offer and make up to three choices.

A variety of different clubs are offered each term and include things like art and craft, golf, sports, cookery, computer, netball, drama, dance, gardening, music and eco-warriors. The clubs are always very popular with the children and enjoyed by all.

Art Club

Art Club

In Art Club, we can try our hands at all sorts of art and craft activities.

Recently we made origami animals and were surprised at how difficult the instructions could get - we were very pleased with our paper models afterwards though. Another term, we tried a new skill of enamelling. We made designs for enamelled jewellery and then Mrs Pettit fired them in her enamel kiln. Some of the group could have a career in hand-made glass jewellery!

At other times we've done pottery painting, painting and collaging. We get to work in small group and sometimes with two teachers!

Choir

Miss Harper is in charge of our school choir and we take part in lots of singing events with other schools. We have been to the NIA, Chateau Impney, Music festivals and lots more.

We always sing at our school fayres, sing around Droitwich during the Christmas period,we sung on bonfire night last year and we even took part in an official ceremony in Droitwich town centre last year, where they unveiled a new statue!

We really enjoy our singing and sometimes we just can’t stop.

Cookery Club

Cookery Club

We work in a group of six or eight and together prepare and create a range of savoury and sweet foods. The children learn about food hygiene and safety in the kitchen and experience different ways of cooking, eg. toasting under the grill, melting or simmering on the hob and baking in the oven.

We also introduce then to a range of preparations such as cutting, spreading, chopping, mixing, 'rubbing in' and beating/creaming.

Our favourite recipe is French Bread Pizza. The children choose their own topping and arrange this creatively. The results are always mouth watering! Our cheese scones are becoming legendary. We follow a simple recipe and have outstanding success every time!

We introduce the children to thinking about how we can choose the 'healthy option'. This is reflected in the recipes we use, one being pasta with tuna and sweetcorn. We have recently introduced an Italian tomato sauce which is very popular.

The best thing about this club is that we can eat what we make!

Drama Club

In drama club, run by Miss Simons, we do lots of different activities.

Sometimes we work from a script and use the digital video camera to review and reflect upon our performance. We also do lots of improvisation games, one of the most popular is 'Emotion Party' where you have to guess what emotion someone is acting out.

In the photo some children are playing 'Anything Fabric' where you have to use the fabric as a prop and act away!

Eco Warriors

Eco Warriors

As part of the Year 4 clubs, the children have the opportunity to join our Eco Club where they complete lots of eco activities in our Forest School area.

We do lots of interesting and fun things at Eco Warriors. We have made bird feeders from recycled milk cartons to encourage birds to our eco site. We have also created mobiles from natural materials to hang from the trees and have made little homes for animals to shelter in.

At the end of their time at Eco Warriors the children help to light a fire and cook marshmallows and drink hot chocolate using boiling water which we heat on our fire. This is definitely the favourite art of the children’s time at Eco Warriors!

We especially enjoyed learning about different types of knots and lashings, which enabled us to make our Forest School table.

In ICT club, we can explore the internet under supervision, play games, and create pictures using a graphics programme.

We can practise word processing and typing skills. We like to make smart board interactive pages and presentations.

It is also a chance for us to do some research based on our topic work in class.

ICT Club is run on a Wednesday after school by Mrs Sims and Mrs Hermiston.

Reception Library

Reception Library

Reception children are invited to come to the school library on Wednesday afternoons between 3.00pm and 3.30pm.

It is an opportunity for parents/carers and children to share and choose a book to take home for the week.

The children learn to recognise their name on their library card and are able to learn how to use the scanner. Children find this quite exciting!

Forest School at St Peter's

At St Peter's the children in Reception and Year 1 have the opportunity to attend Forest School for one two hour session for a period of seven weeks. Each session is led and supervised by a qualified Forest School Leader.

Forest school is an excellent way to develop the children's self esteem, confidence, independence and their understanding and respect for their outside environment. Forest School is an opportunity for the children to experience nature and the outdoor environment in a safe, secure and hands on way. For those children who learn better practically they have greater level of success than in a traditional classroom.

Children are given the opportunity to use a wide range of resources both natural and man-made. Although Forest School leaders will plan specific activities, the children are encouraged to choose how they wish to use them within their Forest School session so that they can lead their own learning.

Activities which the children complete during a Forest School session, may include map making, mini beast hunting, mud painting, collecting and sorting and den building.

Forest School
The children at Forest school love getting muddy! The children even try to paint Miss Harwood’s face when they are at Forest School. She usually runs away very quickly!
  Forest School
The children also like making hot chocolate with water and mud. Here the children are working together to make mint and strawberry hot chocolate. It tasted very yummy!
Forest School
Fun making hot chocolate using soil and water!
  Forest School
Making a smelly potion, which we thought smelt of chocolate!
Forest School
Using a magnifying glass to look closely at some interesting natural objects in the Forest School area.
  Forest School
Making mud paint using soil and water, and using it to paint shapes and print objects on the sheet to make a Forest School canvas.
Forest School
Bug hunting is one of the children's favourite activities in Forest School. This child found a worm whilst digging, which he eagerly showed the rest of the children.
  Forest School
The children helped us to light a fire. We toasted crumpets and had popcorn to celebrate our time at Forest School.

Other Clubs

We have some clubs for our dancers and musicians. Mrs Greenwood and Miss Simons run a dance club for Years 2 and 3.

Reception children have a special library club which is run by Mrs Long. The children come into school on Wednesday afternoons with their parents and carers to choose and share books together.

Table Tennis, Judo and Football

Don Evans is a registered ETTA coach and comes into school to run a table tennis club on Friday lunchtimes for all year groups.

Ni-Co Coaching partnership run a judo club on Friday afternoons.

Kidderminster Harrier run a football club on Monday afternoons.
