Event - World War II Severn Valley Trip
27 June 2009
This Term Year 3 children have been learning all about WWII.
They have found out about children who were evacuated from the cities and read letters that were written during the war.
Not only have we been linking History and English to our topic, but children have also been making air raid shelters in Design and Technology. When the shelters were finished we invited parents to come into school for a 'show and tell' session. The children were extremely proud of their shelters.
All our learning has culminated in a trip to the Severn Valley Railway. As the pupils gathered to board the old steam train at the Severn Valley Railway they stepped back in time to the second World War when many children were being evacuated from the cities into the countryside.
The pupils dressed as evacuees from the 1930s and as the steam built they could really feel the history of those difficult times.
![]() When we arrived we had our ID cards stamped, then they stamped them on the train. |
![]() We waved goodbye on the train. |
|
![]() We sat in the different shelters to see what it was like. |
![]() We went all the way to Arley station where we ate our lunch. We read our letters from our Mums and Dads. It was quite sad! |
|
![]() Even the teachers dressed up in 1940's costumes! |
![]() We were allowed to hold some of the weapons used in WW2, we felt sorry for the soldiers having to carry these for miles - they were very heavy. |
